Airman Leadership School

Dedicated to Staff Sergeant Felicia R. Rivers

Who We Are

The SSgt Felicia R. Rivers Airman Leadership School prepares Senior Airmen for supervisory and rating official duties in the world’s best aerospace fighting force. The 192 hour course, over 24 academic days, is divided into three major curriculum areas that support the course objective: communications, leadership and professions of arms.

Graduation from ALS is a prerequisite for promotion to Staff Sergeant. Air Force Instruction, AFI 36-2301 – Professional Military Education, and ALS Procedural Guidance establishes Air Force policy and command responsibilities for Professional Military Education.

Our Mission

The Airman Leadership School (ALS) prepares Senior Airmen to be professional war fighting Airmen who can supervise and lead Air Force work teams in the employment of air, space, and cyberspace power. This Professional Military Education (PME) setting—the first experience for many Airmen outside technical school—provides a rigorously-paced academic environment. The course is designed to prepare Air Force enlisted members and a few select civilian employees for greater responsibility by broadening leadership, communication, and management skills through increased understanding of the military profession.
