SSgt Felicia R. Rivers Airman Leadership School

“It’s not for us, it’s for them”

Who We Are

Our schoolhouse is named after SSgt Felicia R. Rivers who was a contract specialist with the Operational Contracting Division. Unfortunately, she passed away due to cancer in April 2011. She was involved with various community activities and volunteered at a local orphanage to name a few. Her legacy is extremely important to us here at the schoolhouse; we honor her in every class by having the students volunteer at least one meaningful volunteer event prior to graduation. Some examples of the volunteer events are packages for deployed members, CDC beautifications, Garden of Hope beautifications, Airmen’s Attic beautifications, local library events, Children’s Hospital events, and many more.

Our Mission

The Airman Leadership School (ALS) prepares Senior Airmen to be professional war fighting Airmen who can supervise and lead Air Force work teams in the employment of air, space, and cyberspace power. This Professional Military Education (PME) setting—the first experience for many Airmen outside technical school—provides a rigorously-paced academic environment. The course is designed to prepare Air Force enlisted members and a few select civilian employees for greater responsibility by broadening leadership, communication, and management skills through increased understanding of the military profession.

The 192 hour course, over 24 academic days, is divided into three major curriculum areas that support the course objective: communications, leadership and professions of arms.

Graduation from ALS is a prerequisite for promotion to Staff Sergeant. Air Force Instruction, AFI 36-2301 – Professional Military Education, and ALS Procedural Guidance establishes Air Force policy and command responsibilities for Professional Military Education.
